Statement from the Colorado School Counselor Association in support of all members of our community who have been targeted as LGBTQ+ or immigrant populations.

The Colorado School Counselor Association stands firmly in support of all members of our community who have been targeted as LGBTQ+ or immigrant populations. As school counseling professionals, we make an ethical commitment to promote social justice and promote “equity for all people and groups for the purpose of ending oppression and injustice affecting clients, students, counselors, families, communities, schools, workplaces, governments, and other social and institutional systems,”* and we desire inclusion, fairness, respect and kindness. We are engaged in conversations on how to protect vulnerable students who are part of the LGBTQ+ community or immigrant/mixed-status families and collaborate with as many organizations as possible to help with this protection. This includes keeping schools as a place where students feel supported and safe.
